EPR Registration
EPR REGISTRATION for Plastic Waste Management: Plastic products have become an essential part of our daily lives. It is produced on a massive scale all over the world. Plastic waste is generated at approximately 5.6 million tonnes per annum (TPA) in India. Its disposal is a significant issue. Recycling is a good way to reuse plastic products but finding a way to eliminate plastic is important.
To ensure the processing of plastic packaging waste, the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) regime is being implemented in the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. According to which, Producers, importers, and brand owners are responsible for ensuring that their plastic packaging waste is processed through recycling, re-use, or end-of-life disposal.
In recent years, the demand for the Battery has grown at an exponential rate. Investment has poured into the battery industry in order to develop long-term storage solutions that will aid in the energy transition. As the world increasingly replaces fossil fuel power with emission-free electrification, batteries are becoming an essential storage tool to help with the transition. With the emphasis now on renewable energy, the use of electricity is gaining traction. As a result, massive amounts of battery waste would be generated. To deal with the situation of rising battery waste, a proactive policy is required. With this in mind, the government issued the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Extended Producer Responsibility means the responsibility of Producers for the environmentally sound management of the product until the end of its life. It is the responsibility of any Producer of Batteries to manage Waste Battery in an environmentally sound manner in order to protect human health and the environment from any adverse effects that may result from any substance contained in Waste Battery.
Every Producer and person or entity involved in the manufacture of batteries shall be required to register with the CPCB through a centralized online portal. Battery Waste Management registration is required for environmentally sound management of waste battery.
All types of batteries, including portable batteries, electric vehicles batteries, automotive batteries, and industrial batteries, are covered under EPR for BWM.
